Bofur could only recall seeing his lads separated once, when stone giants tore them literally hand from hand. Even in death, the brothers departed as one.
He closed Kili’s eyes, defiant and brave to the end, and wiped blood from Fili’s forehead; the young one had plowed on like a workhorse despite grave injuries, taking so many with him as he fell.
For certain, there would be grief, but there would also be fire and song. Bofur would lift his voice to the sky, regaling the legacy of two valiant lads who had given their lives, for justice. For family.
